Pharm.D — Doctor of Pharmacy
The Pharm.D (Doctor of Pharmacy) is a postgraduate level integrated course in pharmacy introduced in India by Pharmacy Council of India in 2008 to inculcate a new standard in pharmacy practice. It is a prerequisite to practice as a licensed clinical pharmacist in India and abroad.
Clinical Pharmacists promote appropriate, effective and safe medication use for patients. They go hand in hand with other members of the healthcare team and closely monitor patient drug therapy to make recommendations on selection of best medication for a patient's condition, correct dose and duration of therapy. They also forecast and solve drug-related issues thereby reducing length of hospital stay and economic burden of treatment, thus increasing quality of life of patients.
Pharm.D graduates have excellent earning potential and the profession is consistently ranked as one of the most highly trusted.
Pharm.D is a six-year program after twelfth standard which includes 5 years of academic study and 1 year of internship or residency. Each academic year is spread over a period of not less than 200 working days.
